1999 ford explorer windows dont work

Same problem as others. Intermittently the Power Windows will not work and the lights on the dashboard flash. Have not found a solution to the problem. This problem is a pain. Does anyone out there have a clue as to the fix? I've checked all the fuses, distribution box, etc. This is a very big problem as the weather is suppose to be rainy for the next week and i dont have a garage and i couldnt go many places anyway because i cant secure my vehicle without windows that roll up, so basically i cant use my truck unless the weather is dry and i feel safe leaving it unattended with windows down I am disappointed that Ford has not been able to tell me the problem.

It is an older vehicle and I do not want to spend a lot of money to fix it. Sometimes the widows work and sometimes they don't, and turn car off and than the work again and the 4 wheel drive lights on dash will flash just like the other 2 Complaints yall have gotten.

Thanks for any help you can give me. Power windows don't work. Not an every time issue. But it is all of them, either they all work or none do. I think it is electrical or computer. When windows don't work, the 4wd and 4wd low lights blink six times , stop, then do it again 30 or 40 seconds later over and over again.

If i turn off the truck they may all work. Started happening four months ago, but has gotten worse. Now sometimes while driving they will stop working. If I turn off ignition they may work, but not guaranteed. Tonight all windows were working, went through a drive through and driver window went halfway down and stopped working, 4wd and 4wd low began blinking again, truck is in driveway have gone out several times to try to restart it, doesn't seem to fix it anymore.

This is same issue as Rebecca H from maryland reported. If you have a for-profit service, contact us. Most Common Solutions: not sure 8 reports fixed it myself 1 reports. Find something helpful? Spread the word. Many Fords come with a fuse puller located in the interior fuse block cover. This small puller is a simple pair of clips that grab the edges of a blade-style fuse.

There may be a secondary fuse block under the hood on the driver's side wheel well. It has larger blade fuses for protecting the computer and subsystems from damage. Replace any blown fuses and check the window's operation. Test the window operation in relation to the other windows in the vehicle. If only one window is inoperable but the others work, the problem could be a switch or a failing or bad electric motor.

Switch replacement is fairly easy in most Fords as they simply pop out of the door panel openings with slight pressure from a screwdriver. Unplug the switch assembly, replace it with a new unit and press it back into the door panel.

Test the window for operation. Check the window glass for excessive play or signs of a "slipped track. Repair this by removing the door panel turn the armrest bolts and door handle screws counterclockwise, then disengage the pop rivets and removing the motor by unplugging it along with the mount bolts.

Replace the entire window regulator if the hinges and internals cannot be repaired. Replace the motor by pressing it into the window regulator gears, then securing the mount bolts and reconnecting it to the harness. Replace the door panel and switches, then test the window.
