Pats denver game score

New England deferred its choice to the second half meaning Tua Tagovailoa and the Dolphins will start on offense. That is where Tagovailoa and company opened up, firing a screen pass to rookie Jaylen Waddle who picked up nine yards on the first play from scrimmage. Tagovailoa hit Waddle again for a gain of four on the next play, resetting the chains.

Two plays later, the Dolphins hit Waddle again for his third catch of the day, giving him the NFL record for most receptions in a season by a rookie. Miami picked up a pair of first downs to move past midfield before an encroachment penalty by Carl Davis gifted them five more yards. On 3rd-and-3 from the New England yard line, Tagovailoa hit Myles Gaskin for a gain of seven to move into the red area. On the next two plays Miami netted nine yards setting up another third down where Tagovailoa would hit Waddle in the end zone for a touchdown.

A great first drive for Miami. New England opened their first drive with a pair of runs by Damien Harris following a Miami touchback. On 3rd-and-2, Jones attempted his first pass of the day and delivered a strike to Xavien Howard who returned it for a touchdown. Back out after a disastrous first drive, the Patriots went back to the ground but Miami was called for a too many men penalty and New England picked up a free five yards.

Harris converted for the first down with a gain of six before the Patriots fed him the ball through the air on a running back screen for a gain of five. Following the drive it was announced that starting tackle Isaiah Wynn would be questionable to return with an ankle injury while running back Rhamondre Stevenson was questionable with a head injury.

Miami started at their own yard line following a solid punt by Bailey. Miami faced another third down following a pair of runs, this time with three yards to convert. A Tagovailoa overthrow fell into and out of the arms of Devin McCourty, leading to a fake punt attempt that should have been unsuccessful but Miami was bailed out due to a phantom unnecessary roughness call. The drive lives for Miami. With their fresh set of downs, Miami ran a screen before letting the clock run out on the quarter.

As the second quarter opened, rain started to fall in Miami Gardens. Facing another third down, Miami went back to the RPO for a gain of 11 on the ground and a first down. Practice squad call up Sean Davis stayed down following the play and eventually left the field. With a fresh set of downs inside the New England yard line, the Dolphins kept it on the ground with the rain picking up. That led to a 3rd-and-7 where Tagovailoa tried J.

Gunner Olszewski returned the following kickoff to the New England yard line. Damien Harris took a check down for six yards before Kendrick Bourne took an end around for nine.

Newton finished with yards through the air on a 68 completion percentage, but the air attack was essentially nonexistent for Josh McDaniels.

Newton's legs did come alive in the second half, however, as he finished with 76 yards on the ground and a goal-line touchdown run. While the defense was able to come up clutch by picking off Lock twice in the fourth quarter to give New England a chance at a miracle win, Newton's pass to Harry on a fourth-and try at the Denver 24 yard line fell short as did the comeback.

Timmy Toe Tap. While there were a number of turning points throughout this game, the big gut punch for the Patriots came on Denver's first offensive possession of the second half. New England's defense had Drew Lock pinned on a third-and situation at their own yard line, but the quarterback was able to drop back and complete a yard bomb to Tim Patrick to convert the first down. The Broncos would eventually go on to kick a field goal and go up At the time of the third-down try, it seemed like the Patriots were building momentum to get the ball back and possibly get within a score of taking the lead.

That deep shot by Lock to Patrick eliminated that opportunity and kept Denver humming along. The other moment of note in the Broncos win came with to play in the first half. The Patriots offense was cruising down the field and Cam Newton had his offense inside the red zone. As quickly as they got in there, however, a bad snap by Joe Thuney -- who made the move from left guard to center for this game -- had the ball sail over Newton's head and the quarterback had to pick it up at the Denver yard line.

That put New England in a second-and scenario and forced them to eventually just kick a field goal. So instead of possibly scoring a touchdown to make it a Denver lead, it ended up being OK, CAM! You could easily point to the double-pass or the Philly special-type throw that Julian Edelman made to Cam Newton as the key highlight of this game as Josh McDaniels emptied out his bag of trick to try and mount the comeback, but this yard run by Newton was by far the top play.

This was a pure scramble by the Patriots quarterback, who took it yards down to the Denver eight-yard line. That run also put Newton over 5, rushing yards for his career, making him just the second quarterback in NFL history to get over that milestone.

Michael Vick is the other and holds the all-time quarterback rushing record with 6, yards. From here, the Patriots will look to pick up the pieces and move to. Both points and yards were at a premium for the Patriots offense, allowing Denver to go into intermission with a lead. After the break, Wynn went back to his usual left tackle spot, flip-flopping spots with the rookie Onwenu. Yet, Newton still felt occasional pressure from the Denver D, and there didn't look like much hope of a New England comeback.

Following a fifth McManus field goal that put Denver up , it looked like New England was doing something good offensively. However, TE Ryan Izzo lost a fumble during hisyard reception. The Broncos recovered and raced into Patriots territory. Nothing was going New England's way. By the fourth quarter, all the Broncos needed to do was run the football, up yes, all points from the legs of the kickers at that stage.

Yet, they couldn't. New England's D forced a Bronco punt, and after a long Newton scramble, the Patriots found themselves in a goal-to-go situation. A couple plays later, Newton reached the ball over the goal line for the game's lone touchdown, but a failed two-point conversion kept the score at arm's length, Again, with just half a quarter to play, Denver needed only run out the clock, but Lock was asked to throw and was picked off twice in the closing minutes.

One of those INTs led to another Folk field goal, but that was as close as the Patriots would get on the scoreboard. Following the second Lock pick, Newton drove his offense down to the Denver yard line, where, on 4th-and, he was blitzed and delivered an errant pass to an open wide receiver N'Keal Harry deep in the Denver red zone.

Three kneel-downs by Lock ended the game, and New England's record fell to Just came a little short. Got to learn from this and move on. Because that's not the case. We're not that good at that particular point yet. And we need, obviously, practice. Whatever the situation is, we know we're not the only team that's being faced with it, and we have to be ready to go here moving forward.
